Semiahmoo Resort to Host “Ultimate Taste-Off 2!”

5-Course Pairing Dinner features Boundary Bay Brewery & Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery on Jan. 28

Blaine, WA - Semiahmoo Resort will again host its popular Winemaker-Brew Master Pairing Dinner, the “Ultimate Taste-Off 2”, on Saturday, January 28 at 6:30 pm. Semiahmoo offered its first “Taste-Off” dinner showcasing wines from Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery and craft-brewed beer from Bellingham’s own Boundary Bay Brewery last February. This year’s dinner will again feature five courses and a pairing “rematch” so to speak, and will be prepared by Semiahmoo’s new Executive Chef, Kasey Dubler. Considerations for the menu involve choosing multiple courses to be complemented by both beer and wine, then allowing guests to vote for their favorite pairing. “Most people are familiar with the practice of pairing fine wine with a gourmet meal, but pairing one with a craft-brewed beer has gained in popularity, and in some cases, pairs better than wine. Regardless of which one wins the “Taste-Off” this year, guests are sure to enjoy the five wonderful dinner courses prepared by our new Executive Chef, Kasey Dubler.” Jeff Kline, General Manager, Semiahmoo Resort.

Providing another entertaining and competitive element to the evening originates from the long-standing friendship between the owner of Boundary Bay Brewery, Ed Bennett and Chateau Ste. Michelle’s Head Winemaker, Bob Bertheau. Bennett and Bertheau became friends while both were enrolled in the Enology program at the University of California at Davis. Bennett went on to pursue craft-brewing and started Boundary Bay Brewery in Bellingham in 1995. Bertheau focused on winemaking for 16 years in Sonoma County, California, before becoming Head Winemaker in 2004 at Washington State’s oldest winery, Chateau Ste. Michelle. As they co-host the dinner, they will share highlights of each beverage pairing decision, as well as some entertaining anecdotes from their chosen fields of interest.

The evening will provide dinner guests with a delicious culinary experience and an opportunity to taste a variety of beverage and food pairings in a casual atmosphere, in addition to encouraging a fun “battle of the beverages” discussion with each pairing.

Executive Chef, Kasey Dubler’s Bio:

Kasey Dubler was appointed Semiahmoo Resort’s new Executive Chef in July 2011. In this role he oversees the culinary operations for the award-winning resort, including banquets, weddings, and seasonal winemaker and brew master dinners.

Before coming to Semiahmoo, Chef Dubler was the Executive Banquet Chef of The Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City, Utah, the city’s only AAA 5-Diamond hotel. In this role, he oversaw banquet operations for the 775-room resort with 100,000 square feet of event space, including five kitchens, on-site bakery, banquets, wedding receptions, themed buffets, fine dining restaurant, café, afternoon tea room and confectionary shop.

Prior to his Executive Banquet Chef position in Salt Lake City, Chef Dubler held a variety of culinary positions, including serving as the Opening Chef for The Sun Valley Club, a Country Club-style restaurant in Sun Valley, Idaho. He was the lead cook at Whist restaurant at the Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica, California, in addition to working for Wolfgang Puck Catering in Los Angeles, twice catering the Oscars.

During his career he has had the distinct pleasure of cooking a private breakfast at the Utah Governor’s Mansion for visiting Cabinet members in 2010. He was also an instructor and wine event specialist in Los Angeles at Learnaboutwine.com, specializing in food and wine-pairings, in addition to teaching courses on Culinary Trends and Gluten-Free dining, he has also appeared on multiple cooking shows with local TV personalities.

Chef Dubler, known for his seafood expertise and signature seafood dishes, is a graduate of the Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts Los Angeles, Pasadena, California, is a Culinary Advisory Board Member for The Art Institute of Salt Lake City, Salt Lake City, Utah, is ServSafe Certified by the National Restaurant Association and is an Associate Member of the Society of Wine Educators.

Senior Sales Manager Receives Certification Designation.

Blaine, WA. September 7, 2010—Semiahmoo Resort-Golf-Spa, a hotel resort with 198 guestrooms and 35,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, announces Wendy LeBlanc, Senior Sales Manager, has received the industry-regarded Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation. The CMP program was established to recognize individuals who have achieved the meeting planning industry’s highest standard of professionalism. The requirements for certification are based on two to three years of professional experience, and a comprehensive written examination. The designation signifies credibility of a meeting professional’s opinions and ideas, both at work and in the greater meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry.

Wendy LeBlanc has worked as a sales manager at Semiahmoo Resort since 2004. In this role, she manages the sales department and concentrates on local, regional and national association meetings; including annual and national conferences.

“We’re very proud of Wendy. Her achievement exemplifies the levels to which our employees strive to better themselves professionally, while also improving the service they can provide to our client partners,” said Jeff Kline, Semiahmoo Operations Manager.

Seattle Bride magazine votes Semiahmoo Resort “Best Northwest Destination Wedding Site” for 2010.

BLAINE, Washington— Semiahmoo Resort has once again been voted the “Best Northwest Destination Wedding Site” for 2010 in Seattle Bride magazine’s “Best of 2010” July issue.
